What PRINCE2 Certifications are Available in Ireland
The most popular PRINCE2® Certifications available are the PRINCE2® Foundation and PRINCE2® Practitioner.
In this article, we’ll take a look at the details of each certification, who can achieve these qualifications, and address the question of which is better.
Who Can Achieve PRINCE2® Certifications?
Although it’s helpful to have some project experience before you begin working towards these qualifications, it’s not a pre-requisite.
With focus and commitment, those who are completely new to project management can achieve these certifications.
Many experienced project managers, trained in other frameworks achieve PRINCE2® certification to enhance their abilities and career prospects.
Which is Better: PRINCE2® Foundation or Practitioner?
If you’re wondering which PRINCE2® certification is the best choice for your project management career development, we suggest you consider both.
As opposed to other project management methodologies, where you need to allow for a gap in time between levels, you can achieve both the Foundation and Practitioner certifications at the same time.
There is no “better” qualification, just a case of which is most suited to your needs at the time of attending training.
About the PRINCE2® Foundation Certification
All PRINCE2® candidates begin with the PRINCE2® Foundation level. This examines your understanding of the PRINCE2® methodology and your ability to contribute to a PRINCE2® project as a team member.
- The PRINCE2® Foundation Certification will not expire.
- The exam is a 60-minute, closed book exam.
- 55% or higher is required to pass the Foundation exam.
About the PRINCE2® Practitioner Certification
You must have passed the PRINCE2® Foundation exam before you can progress to Practitioner level. PRINCE2® Practitioner level is more about the tailoring and application of the PRINCE2® methodology.
- The PRINCE2® Practitioner Certification must be renewed every 3 years, either through Axelos membership or by resitting the exam.
- The exam is a 120-minute, open book exam (using the official Axelos manual)
- You must achieve 55% or higher to pass the Practitioner exam.
How long does it take to get PRINCE2® certified?
The answer to this depends on how you approach training and certification. We’ve used our Foundation and Practitioner course as an example of the timeframe involved.
Pre-course reading: this is usually between 5 and 6 hours. You must complete this before training begins.
Training: our Foundation course is 3 consecutive days in duration. Our 2-day Practitioner course follows immediately after this.
Exams: Both exams take place during training.
To summarise, with our approach, you can achieve both PRINCE2® certifications in 5 days of training + 5 – 6 hours of pre-course reading.
